Brendan O’Mahony
Composer and Conductor
What is your musical background?
I started my journey as a young musician in St Mary’s Cathedral choir where I formed a love for choral music. As a young adult, I enjoyed performing in all sorts of bands at festivals and events around Australia, as well as continuing my own study of jazz piano. I currently work as a full-time high school teacher where I accompany choirs, organise events, and endeavour to inspire a new generation of musicians.
What is your advice to singers performing your works?
Know the story behind each piece, and always sing with passion and emotion!
Songs by Brendan:
Why can’t I fly? (SA with piano)
Swimming (SA choir, bells, cymbal and piano)
I Remember (2-parts with piano)
What are your favourite pieces you’ve composed?
My favourite work is Swimming, as I am a keen ocean swimmer, and I wrote most of the song as I was swimming across the bay at Bondi.
