What is your advice to singers performing your works?

Have fun and make the music your own. Try to find the nuances in the music that you enjoy and make the most of these. Enjoy the rhythms in the piece and the dynamic changes. If you have different ideas for the interpretation that are not indicated, go for it!

Juno (SA with solo flute and piano)

The Call of the Country (SSA with piano)

What are your favourite pieces you’ve composed?

The music closest to my heart are the piano pieces Soliloquy and A Winter’s Tale that I wrote studying with Dan Walker in 2015. Equally as special are the choral works I wrote in 2017: Inkulueko and Juno. There were such strong, but contrasting inspirations for these works; Nelson Mandela’s fight for freedom and equality in South Africa and the Juno Spacecraft’s voyage across the solar system!
