Description

This well-known and rollicking tune was adapted from the tune and lyrics of “Bound for California”. Such is the habit of sailors to adapt tunes from the British Isles, changing the words according to the details of the new voyage. The “caller” typically sings the story of the song, followed by the response of the sailors as they pull the ropes “Heave away! Haul away!” No special singing qualifications required from the crew! All that is left to do is to keep pulling those ropes, and think upon the girls they have left behind. This is a challenging arrangement. Good luck!
